Middle Java Developer

We are building scalable Java backend services and APIs and need a Middle Java Developer to strengthen our engineering team. You will work with Spring Boot, REST services, microservices, and MySQL while contributing to technical decisions and collaborating across a distributed team. Responsibilities Build and maintain backend services implemented in Java Enhance and extend REST APIs that power mobile app features and integrate with external systems Own MySQL tasks including data model design, SQL query development and tuning, and database issue resolution Contribute to evolving backend and microservices architecture with scalability and maintainability in mind Deliver secure, well-tested, reliable code aligned with established software engineering standards Investigate and resolve bugs, performance regressions, and production incidents Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, estimation, and solution design preparation Coordinate with mobile developers, product stakeholders, QA, and other backend engineers to deliver end-to-end features Support automated testing efforts, monitoring setup, logging practices, and overall application stability Use AI-driven development tools when beneficial to boost productivity, improve code quality, and streamline testing and debugging Requirements Hands-on experience with Java and object-oriented programming fundamentals for 2+ years Solid understanding of REST API design and familiarity with established API development conventions Proven track record supporting or developing microservices and distributed system architectures Working knowledge of MySQL, including SQL syntax, relational data modeling, and query performance tuning Good grasp of core design principles, common design patterns, and writing clean, maintainable code Practical background creating unit and integration tests and using modern testing tools Strong understanding of security fundamentals such as authentication, authorization, and secure API design Comfort with Git-based version control, CI/CD pipeline usage, and modern delivery practices Ability to diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, and other monitoring data Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with accountability for delivered results Effective interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate in a distributed, cross-functional team English proficiency at B2 (Upper-Intermediate) level or higher Nice to have Experience with cloud infrastructure to deploy, scale, and operate backend systems Familiarity with AI-powered tools for coding assistance, testing support, and troubleshooting We offer International projects with top brands Work with global teams of highly skilled, diverse peers Healthcare benefits Employee financial programs Paid time off and sick leave Upskilling, reskilling and certification courses Unlimited access to the LinkedIn Learning library and 22,000+ courses Global career opportunities Volunteer and community involvement opportunities EPAM Employee Groups Award-winning culture recognized by Glassdoor, Newsweek and LinkedIn EPAM is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
