Backend Engineer

THE MISSION WinIt is the legaltech shield for the everyday driver. With over 2 million users and a platform that has been used to fight over 1 million violations, we are now entering a phase of aggressive national expansion. Every new market means more tickets, more payments and more messages moving through code you own. We are hiring a Backend Engineer to build and run the systems behind the product, working directly with the founders, shipping to production every week, and owning what happens when it breaks. THE VIBE We're a small team, so scope is broad. One week you're building a backend service; the next it's a payment flow or a production fire. You'll touch everything. What you ship today is in users' hands tomorrow. WHAT YOU WILL OWN ▲ Pipelines & Services Build and run the background services, pipelines and APIs that move every ticket through our system. ■ Payments & Messaging Ship Stripe and Twilio flows where a bug costs a real person real money. ★ Ship Product Talk to the people using it and see the result in production the same week. ↺ On-Call Get paged, find the root cause, make sure it never happens again. That's just Tuesday. Stack: TypeScript · Node.js · MongoDB · Next.js · React · Docker · AWS · Stripe · Twilio WHO YOU ARE A digger. "It works now" isn't enough for you. You need to know why it broke. An owner. You don't hand off problems. Your service, your call, your pager. Fearless with refactors. You see code that's grown messy and clean it up safely, without stopping the ship. Willing to push back. If you think we're wrong, you say so, with data. We'll do the same to you. Built for startup speed. Broad scope, fast cycles, real consequences. 3+ years shipping production backend code. TypeScript/Node ideal. Fluent English. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF You want to stay in one narrow lane of the stack. You'd rather wait for instructions than make the call. You want to work your own hours. Whether you're in our NYC office or remote, you work New York hours. WHY WINIT? Flexible location. Join us in New York, or work remotely on NYC hours. Direct impact. What you ship today protects people's money in their hands tomorrow. No layers. You work directly with the founders. How to Apply Submit your resume and a link to your GitHub or a project you're proud of. We move fast and care deeply about attention to detail, so somewhere in your application, describe the hardest production bug you've tracked down and include one sentence on what the root cause was. Missing this detail? We will assume you are not the engineer we are looking for. We will also ask three short questions about your backend experience, how you handle incidents, and a system you've refactored. Job Type: Full-time Experience: shipping production backend code: 3 years (Required) Language: English (Required) French (Required) Work Location: Remote
