Senior Full Stack Engineer — Back-End Focus

About DragonPay DragonPay is a fintech startup building modern payment solutions for U.S. credit unions. Our platform enables financial institutions to offer innovative payment experiences through their existing digital banking applications. We're building a small, experienced engineering team where each developer has meaningful ownership and contributes directly to the design, development, and delivery of our products. About the Role We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer with strong back-end expertise to help build the transaction-processing and workflow capabilities of our cloud-based payment platform. A central responsibility of this position is developing reliable, durable workflows that coordinate complex financial transactions across multiple services and external systems. You'll work closely with our technical lead to build workflow orchestration, transaction processing, and supporting platform services using TypeScript, NestJS, PostgreSQL, and Temporal. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex distributed-systems problems, designing for failures and recovery, and leveraging AI development tools to deliver high-quality software. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain back-end applications and services using TypeScript, Node.js, and NestJS. Build and maintain durable transaction-processing workflows using Temporal. Develop reliable orchestration across asynchronous operations, internal services, and external systems. Design workflows that safely handle retries, timeouts, failures, interruptions, and recovery without duplicating financial transactions. Implement transaction state management, idempotency, concurrency control, and consistency across distributed operations. Develop asynchronous processing and event-driven messaging capabilities. Design and maintain PostgreSQL databases and transactional data models. Build secure REST APIs and supporting platform services. Develop automated testing for workflows, failure scenarios, recovery behavior, and service integrations. Support production monitoring, observability, troubleshooting, and operational recovery. Collaborate on cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and system reliability. Contribute to front-end development and external integrations when needed. Participate in architecture discussions, technical planning, and peer code reviews. Use AI-assisted development tools extensively for planning, implementation, testing, debugging, and refactoring. Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability. Take ownership of features from initial requirements through production delivery. Required Qualifications Strong professional experience developing back-end applications using TypeScript and Node.js. Production experience with NestJS or a comparable structured back-end framework, with the ability to work effectively in NestJS. Experience with Temporal or a comparable durable workflow orchestration platform, including understanding workflow execution, retries, state persistence, and recovery. Strong understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and reliable transaction execution. Experience designing idempotent, fault-tolerant systems that handle retries, timeouts, and partial failures safely. Strong experience with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases, including transactions, concurrency control, and data modeling. Experience designing and implementing REST APIs and service-oriented architectures. Experience with event-driven systems and asynchronous messaging. Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, and protection of sensitive data. Experience with AWS or comparable cloud platforms. Experience with automated unit and integration testing, including failure and recovery scenarios. Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices. Practical experience using AI coding assistants, with the ability to critically evaluate their output. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a small engineering team. Preferred Qualifications Production experience with Temporal, particularly TypeScript workflows and activities. Experience designing and operating long-running business processes or distributed transaction workflows. Experience in fintech, banking, payments, or other transaction-intensive industries. Understanding of payment processing, transaction lifecycles, reconciliation, or financial consistency. Experience with transactional outbox patterns, message queues, and at-least-once delivery. Experience with AWS services such as RDS, SQS, SNS, and EKS. Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or Helm. Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
