Software Engineer – Forward Deployed Engineer (AI Integration)

About Us Founded in 2011, Modus is a global, fully remote team of world-class technologists who thrive in a collaborative, innovative environment. We're a digital product engineering partner for forward-thinking businesses. Our global teams work side-by-side with clients to design, build, and scale custom solutions that achieve real results and lasting change, partnering with industry leaders including AWS, GitHub, and Atlassian. We were fully remote before it was cool! Recognized as one of the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Private Companies for nine years and a top remote work company by FlexJobs, we have helped some of the world's largest brands deliver powerful digital experiences. As an award-winning Atlassian partner with a world-class team, we help organizations innovate and solve complex challenges for Fortune 500 companies and beyond, we want to hear from you. Opportunity! We are looking for a Software Engineer functioning as a Forward Deployed Engineer to help customers successfully integrate and adopt AI-powered products. You'll work directly with customers to understand their technical environments, identify how they can best leverage a suite of AI products, and rapidly build integrations, prototypes, and solutions that bring those opportunities to life. This role combines full-stack engineering, AI integration, rapid prototyping, and customer enablement. You'll need to be comfortable moving between code and customer conversations—working independently to understand new systems while communicating technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This role is open to candidates in the United States and LATAM who can support working hours across U.S. Eastern through Pacific Time zones. Requirements: Strong full-stack software engineering experience building modern applications and services. Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python. Hands-on experience integrating AI capabilities or AI-powered products into applications and existing systems. Experience or strong familiarity with agentic architectures, AI agents, tool calling, and modern AI application patterns. Strong understanding of REST APIs and familiarity with GraphQL concepts and integrations. Experience building integrations between products, APIs, services, and customer environments. Ability to rapidly prototype solutions and turn ideas or customer requirements into working technical implementations. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently research unfamiliar technologies, systems, and customer environments. A product enablement mindset—the ability to go beyond implementing a technical request and identify how customers can best leverage available product capabilities. Comfortable working directly with customers to understand their needs, clarify technical requirements, and guide integrations. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with a high degree of autonomy. Bonus points: Experience within Education Technology (EdTech), particularly products or platforms serving K–12 education. Experience working in a Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, Integration Engineer, or customer-facing software engineering capacity. Experience implementing LLM-powered applications, AI agents, or agentic workflows. Experience working with third-party AI platforms, APIs, or AI product ecosystems. Experience building proofs of concept that evolved into production integrations. Experience supporting customer onboarding or technical product adoption. Familiarity with education technology integrations, platforms, or workflows. You'll Love: Working directly with customers to solve real technical and product challenges. Building integrations that help customers get meaningful value from AI-powered products. Moving quickly from customer conversations to working prototypes and solutions. Combining full-stack engineering, APIs, AI, and agentic architectures in practical applications. Exploring unfamiliar systems and independently figuring out how they work. Helping customers understand not only how to integrate a product, but how to use it effectively. Working across engineering, product, and customer-facing responsibilities rather than staying within a traditional software engineering lane. By joining our team, you'll be part of a winning squad that plays to each other's strengths and celebrates every success together.
